My parallel undergraduate major is Exercise Science (Physical Education). I chose this as my parallel major because I switched from an intended nursing major to this. I chose this major because it is the study of physical movement and how it affects the body along with how nutrition and diet affect overall physical health of the human body. A bachelor’s degree in this offers a broad variety of career choices for graduates, even more so if they choose to attend graduate school afterwards. Obtaining an undergraduate degree in exercise science opens up a wide variety of careers such as an Athletic Therapist, Dietitian, Kinesiologist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Sports Medicine Physician, etc. One specific career you can do with this major is become a Physical Therapist Assistant. As a PT assistant one can make anywhere between $57.9k – $91.1k per year. In this position, one would observe patients before, after and during physical therapy, noting the patient’s status relaying it to a Physical Therapist.
I can gain and obtain professional experience to learn more about this area of study by job shadowing or volunteering with an Athletic Director, Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist’s Assistant or Physical Therapist. The advisor for this major is Mr. Joseph Hassell.
