One ethical issue that arises when storing electronic information about individuals is data inaccuracies. Any information that is electronically stored is not to be altered or edited in any way and is to be secured from any unauthorized data changes. If data is stored inaccurately, there could be liabilities held for potential identity theft or the alteration of confidential information. A second ethical issue that exists is privacy and confidentiality. This is an ethical concern because all information on an individual that is being stored electronically should be protected and kept confidential from potential attackers and identity thieves. Data that is supposed to be confidential is not to be released to anyone that is not authorized without the protected individual’s consent. A third ethical conflict relating to the storage of electronic information is security breaches. A security breach is when confidential information is provided to individuals without the authorization of the person which is a threat to their privacy and could be a potential liability. Security breaches are a common ethical issue within the medical field when a patient’s confidential information is given to other doctors and nurses without their consent and authorization. The last ethical concern for electronic storage is system implementation. This is the process for building a strong system to ensure that it will work properly to store confidential information. System implementation can take some time as you will need to carefully plan to create the best designs then test the system. Each system needs to be thoroughly planned to ensure that all private and confidential stored information is protected from security breaches, identity theft, and alteration of data. The more secure a system is created, there will be less confidential data loss and liabilities. The system that is built should be constructed ethically to protect all private patient information from being breached or misused.
