TLED 430W Projects

Learning by Creating

In this lesson, our class was introduced to the idea of web 2.0, or websites that allowed students to interact with their teachers as well as create projects and gain feedback from their work. I created a lesson plan for 9-10th graders to design a poster using postermywall.com about a Latin American country they would want to visit, costs of the trip, activities they plan to do, and then give feedback to their peers on which trip they would go on in a discussion board in google classrooms. Students will be taught throughout the week basic directions (North, South, East, West), cultural aspects of Latin American countries, movement words(forward, behind, near, far from), and be asked during the week to demonstrate by pointing out objects around the classroom and using movement words to describe their position. The website is easily accessible on all computers, tablets, and smartphones. Website:

Assessments

In order to assess my students on scientific investigations, I created a short quiz on Quizizz using a mix of multiple choice, short answer, and true and false to vary the questions. One great feature on Quizizz is being able to add visuals for questions that need diagrams, like for example, when I asked my students to figure out if the diagram was anaphase. It also allows you to change the timing of each question and give multiple variations for short answer. The quiz can be accessed at this link:

Differentiation

Differentiation is beneficial for students because it enables them to learn with varying modes of instruction and accessibility. In the 21st century, many smartphones have ways of making sites and text easily accessible to those who may be visually or hearing impaired, those with sensory issues, and ESL students. By providing different ways for students to learn, it establishes a better foundation for students who may be having issues with understanding, and also challenges those who find the lessons too easy and need something that will stimulate their minds. As a future Spanish teacher, differentiation is important in language learning as not all students will learn a language in the same way. This allows students to learn Spanish in other ways than simply speaking or reading, and reach their goals for fluency and comprehension.

I’ve presented some accessibility features that are on android LG K51 on google slides to show just a few options that students can use to enhance their learning. Some features include having speech-to-text, zooming in or out of the screen , and even blink LED for notifications and calls for those hard of hearing. These features help make learning available and easier to understand for everyone, and is a great way to show a new way of accessing this information.

Digital Citizenship

The infographic below shares some pros and cons of digital media, as well as how to be proactive citizens on the internet. It’s an easy to digest way for high schoolers to learn more about digital citizenship, the effects of digital media, and ways they can use this information to enhance their internet experience. Infographics are visual aids that help present information in an exciting, fun style, while also still being educational and giving tips and resources. It also makes it easier for teachers to spread info to a large group as it’s easily accessible to share in an email, post on bulletin boards, or send home with students.
