Community Based Experience

Nourishing our Neighbors:

The Nourishing our Neighbors program distributes fresh produce, lean proteins, and whole grains to families with children in over 7 cities across our 4,745 square miles service area. The program offers nutrition education and positive promotional material. I facilitate this program, which includes scheduling distributions, acting as the liaison between the sites and the Foodbank, conducting site visits, ensuring program compliance, and collecting data for grant reporting purposes. There are currently 35 sites in the program. Nourishing our Neighbors serves approximately 1000 households every month and over 3500 individuals every month.

757 Mobile Market

The 757 Mobile Market operates at eight locations in Virginia Beach, where food access is low and the poverty rate is high. The goal of the 757 Mobile Market is to address the root cause of food insecurity such as transportation. At no cost to our neighbors, they are provided with fresh fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and pantry staples as a supplement. My role in this program was to identify potential sites for the relaunch and work with my preceptor to develop a culturally appropriate food list for each site. The market offers a dignified client choice model, providing a real grocery shopping experience. –
