Professional Mission Statement

My mission is to promote the health of individuals, communities, and populations through the application of evidence-based strategies and interventions. I strive to reduce health disparities and inequalities by addressing social determinants of health and advocating for policies that promote health equity. I am committed to advancing public health knowledge and practice through research, education, and collaboration with colleagues, stakeholders, and community partners. My ultimate goal is to contribute to creating a world where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full health potential and live a long, healthy, and fulfilling life.

My top three areas of interest are:

  1. Food Insecurity
  2. Healthy Equity
  3. Maternal and Child Health

I see the top three areas of interest as the foundation of an individual’s health. Food insecurity has been linked to adverse health outcomes and low quality of life. Reduced frequency, quality, and quantity of healthy, nutritious, foods impact the entire body’s ability to function long-term. Addressing food insecurity and its root causes will contribute to a healthy population starting at an individual level. Maternal and child health determines the health of the next generation and can greatly impact the future of the public health field. Addressing public health issues through a health equity lens ensures a healthier population by giving everyone the opportunity to be their best self. Ultimately, I plan to advocate for policies and programs that promote healthy lifestyle choices and health education.
