Digital Forensics and the Social Sciences

From Davin Teo’s TEDx talk, his career transition to a digital forensics professional evolved naturedly. By that, I mean, his career path followed a similar pattern to the majority of tech and trade professions. These fields tend to grow at an accelerated pace, creating an almost vacuum effect in their wake. Societal pressures exert their own pressure into this vacuum, amplifying the need to further fill these technological gaps. As a professional working within a field thusly effected, it is only natural to see a lateral progression of the individuals career path. Where new doors are opened, new opportunities arise. And in my opinion, this is a good thing. As the technology changed, Mr. Teo changed with it. The transitional nature and evolution of the process shows Mr. Teo’s adaptability. The experience of the technological shift also reinforced his professional knowledge and that would undoubtably make him more efficient at his chosen profession. To illustrate, take the common military practice of educating generational units in a cross platform manner. Teaching an old grunt to use a GPS while teaching a young grunt to use map and compass. Both technologies work, but by understanding both, if one fails then you fallback on the other.
