I will be ranking these from 1 to 7, 1 is making the most sense and 7 is making the least amount of sense. To start off I will begin by saying money is definitely number 1. Everyone loves money and the majority of the time people will try to find easy ways to make a lot of money fast, and it’s not always the most ethical way either. If someone can sell some information that means absolutely nothing to them why would they not? It’s not ethical or right to us but some people they can do that and feel no guilt.
Next, I will rate politics as number 2. This one was almost number 1 because there is always so much controversy in elections on if it was rigged or set up or whatnot. We like to believe that none are ever rigged but that is hard considering we will never know the full truth. This could also mess up a lot and cause even bigger problems outside of just hacking, stuff like this can cause a cyberwar between countries and potentially worse.
Coming in at number 3 I have revenge. This one I put as number 3 is because of the fact it feels very childish but at the same time, it happens a lot more than people think. One thing happens to someone and they get mad and watch revenge on them, being hacked in and stealing their whole identity, now that’s almost like a worst-case scenario but still. There are also times when it seems like it is too much to do just to seek revenge.
With number 4 being next I have chosen recognition, it was close between recognition and entertainment. I picked recognition over it because the majority of the time they want to be known or they want to secretly have their name out there as a mystery. Like the group “Anonymous” they are a well-known group yet maintain their secret identity very well. It’s something that gives them a sense of pride.
Next, I have entertainment coming in at number 5. This one is as simple as it sounds they just want to entertain either themselves or someone else when hacking into whatever it is they are. It’s almost something they do to just test their boundary and see what they can get away with.
For number 6 I put multiple reasons. This one is ranked so low only because of the fact it is so broad and could be any random reason that we as readers aren’t sure of exactly what they are. There isn’t much to say about this one other than it’s just a very random one that can be literally anything.
Finally, I have boredom as the 7th and final motive. This one is just sad and probably upsets the most amount of people. For someone to just be bored and want to cause harm or damage to anyone or anything is very sad and disappointing. Cyberbullying was the example shown and that is sad and should be stopped. There is no reason for someone to be bored and just want to cause harm like that.
