Hello, Michael Afriyie, I am a freshman at Old dominion university, and I also major in Cybersecurity.
The reason why I am interested in cybersecurity is because of my father, who is a computer engineer and currently works for the government in tech. He taught me the ins and outs of computers and technology at a young age. I was 6 years old when I received my first ever computer and ever since then, I’ve fallen in love with it. I took tech courses throughout my middle school/high school years, I fairly enjoyed them except for programming, I will say that math really isn’t my strong suit when it comes to technology. I took my first cybersecurity course back in high school and my interest grew more and more as the days went by. I knew that cybersecurity was also a fast-growing field in this new generation so I decided why not to try to gain some experience and learn what I need to do to become successful. Recently I’ve been gaining motivation by looking at my dad’s certificates and the accomplishments he’s had with computers, he has all of his certificates hung up behind his desk, and whenever I walk to my basement, I realize how important learning about computers and technology is. It strives for me to become the best I can be. I’ve also been reading books about cybersecurity to try and build my knowledge and expand my thoughts on my major. I also play these cybersecurity games such as capture the flag and game of threats. I was also introduced to Linux during my senior year of high school, we use to download programs and etc on there. Playing these cybersecurity games built my interest in cyber more than I could’ve known. And those are the reasons why I am interested in cybersecurity technology, I hope this class builds my knowledge of cybersecurity.
