What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?
As we know cybercrime is an illegal action that is taken online in some type of form of technology. It can be multiple different types of illegal actions that occurs in this. However all cybercrime uses network, computer, or the internet to do these things. Cybersecurity focuses on preventing these types of crimes, criminal justice can take a role in this once these actions have occurred. They will take a criminal justice response to this. There is an overlap with the two because they both deal with crime, just cybercrime is dealing with technology. Technology now days plays a huge role in criminality, criminologists look to what is called human factors to describe the actions that happen. With everyone and everything switching over to technology more for everyday factors it has caused cybercrime to become a more occurring crime that takes place everyday. It takes multiple disciplines to understand human behavior, not just one. The criminal justice system has had to make a lot of more changes now with technology being so advanced which has been causing cybercrime to happen a lot. Digital forensics was developed as a job to look into cybercrime and try to understand it more which we talked about in our class. A topic that we discussed in class that can come in play with both of these are white collar crimes. I think this is a significant one that can occur often, but white collar crimes aren’t always dealing with cybercrime. Hopefully as technology keeps advancing everyday we will be able to keep adjusting and figuring out how to stop cybercrime from being so bad.
