Today I will be discussing how Cyber Security relates to other degree programs offered at ODU.

First one is Maritime & Supply Chain Management. When it comes to supply, most companies today use digital records to keep track of their inventory as well as their pricings. If their system gets hacked and companies find out that some of them are getting better prices for the other it can create conflict. Also, if it’s the buyer doing the hacking they can then change their billing price and essentially be stealing from their supplier.

Next is Criminal Justice. First thing that comes to mind is someone altering the date on someone who is a known criminal. Say someone has a warrant out for their arrest, system gets hacked and erases said warrant, poof. Person gets away free of any repercussions that may have resulted.

Another easy relation would be Accounting. Living in the digital age where mostly everyone partakes in online banking you would have to assume that banks have some of the strongest cyber security. Not only to protect peoples data but their money as well! Imagine if our bank accounts were easily hacked into? It would entirely cripple the idea of currency as we know it.

Lastly, I chose Journalism. Media is a powerful tool and only becoming more prevalent as time goes on. The media is a huge resource for people in their everyday lives. Imagine if someone hacked all of the T.V. airwaves and broadcasted a message which provoked chaos. The world could change overnight if there weren’t cyber security in place to combat anything like that from happening.
