How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Cyber technology has created new ways for workplace deviance to occur. Take for example if someone has access to the company human resource files. That person could then find out sensitive information about his coworkers. This opens doors for stalking. They could easily access private phone numbers, addresses, even emergency contacts. It would be impossible for someone to protect themselves from this kind of threat as this information is required for basically any job one would get. If there was someone in the workplace whom he didn’t particularly like, he could then falsify reports or information in that person’s file that could ultimately cost that person their job.
Another way is through passwords. Most people irresponsibly use personal information as their passwords as they are easier to remember. Someone with access to these passwords could then use them to try and hack into their bank accounts or even pins for personal devices.
Let’s not forgot the most obvious ways technology can create workplace deviance. Social media. Social media can be use by coworkers to spread rumor about other workers or even about the company itself. Social media can be used to tarnish reputations and spread false information.
Lastly, cyber technology has left not only the workers information vulnerable but also the company itself. Workers can be tempted to sell the companies information to its competitors for profit. For example, KFC has a specific secret seasoning of their chicken. This information can be digitally obtained and then sold to competitors eliminating the monopoly of that specific tasing chicken which can lower profits and cost the company millions of dollars.
