Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

One way that computers have made the world safer is traffic light sensors. Most traffic lights now have sensors that detect when emergency vehicles are coming and change the lights to green for them. This not only allows the emergency vehicle to get where they need to faster it also helps prevent accidents caused by emergency vehicles running red lights.

Another way computers have made the world safer is with medical documentation. Patients are now able to have their records sent digitally to other doctors or clinics or copied onto a CD for easier transportation. This eliminates the need for paper waste and having digital records makes is harder for the records to be lost versus paper copies.

Lastly, computers have made the world safer through its tele networking capabilities. Take the pandemic for example. Many people were able to continue to work but from the safety of their own home. Decreasing the chance of them being infected and the chance of them continuing to spread the virus.

On the other hand, computers have also made the world less safe as well. One way it has made the world less safe is the ability to remain anonymous. Cyber stalking is a huge terrifying threat that can lead to eventual violence.

Another way computers have made the world less safe is thru hacking. Hackers can get into hospital systems and hold the hospital for ransom. There are some patients in hospitals relying on these computers to literally keep them alive. If the hackers threaten to shut off power, they are ultimately threatening to end those patients lives.  

Lastly, computer have especially made the world unsafe for children. Children are vulnerable to predators on the internet and may not understand the full risk of giving out personal information such as where they live to a “friend” they met online.
