Article 2 Review: Cyberbullying on Social Media: Definitions, Prevalence, and Impact Challenges

Introduction

The article also highlights the need for a standardized definition of cyberbullying and identifies gaps in research, particularly regarding marginalized groups and adults. Although it may not fully explain why individuals engage in cyberbullying, its contributions are instrumental in creating a more secure and empathetic digital environment. By bridging research gaps and providing actionable insights, this study underscores the importance of addressing cyberbullying as a pressing public health and social concern. Its findings serve as a foundation for further research and societal efforts to combat online harm effectively.

Relation to Social Science Principles

If we use this journal to connect it to social science, we would be able to address how cyberbullying social media is set in many social science aspects. Social science involves understanding human behavior and function of human relationships. Some of the studies conducted in this article were able to help us understand the relationship between empathy and aggression relative to cyberbullying. From this examination the researchers were able to conclude that low empathetic individuals were more than likely to engage in cyberbullying. With the support of social science, human behavior, social norms and psychological control over social media are able to be analyzed.  

Research Questions or Hypothesis

In the journal the study was able to diver into the deeper understanding and definition of cyberbullying. The questions that were considered in the research was what factors contributed to cyberbullying, wow are individuals affected by cyberbullying, and what measures can be taken to mitigate these effects, and how cyberbullying is defined in literary systems. These questions allowed for many aspects of cyberbullying to tackled. The foundation of research is able to form when critical question and hypothesis are drawn.

Research Methods

In this journal the methods of research were simple and effective. The two methods used to conduct their review was through asking objective questions and searching through databases for articles, research journals, case studies and theoretical papers that’s assessed cyberbullying behaviors and the many different angles in which the researchers we are able to study the participation behaviors of cyberbullies.

Data and Analysis Conducted

The study conducted in the authors conducted a search over the course of 4 months through three different databases and a review of 4000 articles. Through their search the authors were able to extract relevant information from selected authors, publication, regions, article type, etc. to produce the findings provided in this article.  Patterns and insights in the behaviors of cyberbullying were able to be identified through assessing these many different articles.

The power point in module #4 helps me understand the concept of cyber offending and the different types cyber offending and the likeness of an individual engaging in the action. Some of the findings in article can be closely linked to the factors found in of cyber offending.

Challenges, Concerns, and Contributions of marginalized groups:

The article doesn’t heavily explore the full risks online bullying within the minority community, but it is discussed that young children and minorities often become targets of cyberbully which is a direct result of the absence empathy and remorse they are given.

Study’s Contribution to Society

I don’t believe this study could give a one percent clear image of why a cyberbully choose to engage in this act, but it does a great job at highlight the gaps in research, the exact definition of cyberbullying and who might be influenced to participate. From this study, society will have a better understanding of the why’s and what they can do to ensure it is not happening. This assistance with creating a more secure and safe online environment.  

Conclusion
