Complete the Social Media Disorder scale..  How did you score?  What do you think about the items in the scale?  Why do you think that different patterns are found across the world?

On the scale I score a 4 out of 9, which means that I am a risky user but have not reached a point where social media has completely disrupted my life. The questions on the scale does a great job of pin pointing a person’s area of concern and over use when it comes to social media. The questions on the scale likely aim to assess behaviors such as excessive use, neglect of responsibilities, or withdrawal symptoms related to social media. These items are designed to highlight patterns in how individuals engage with social media and its impact on their lives. When we think about the universal use of social media and how some countries have stricter policies surround the internet and social media, it allows use to understand the trends and patterns a person may have to the overuse of these habits. The United States lenient rules on phones, and internet use has opened the door for social media addictions. We look at the number of apps, and websites that are banned in the country and we can see that its very low compared to other places. This has affected the patterns that people have developed. There are many more factors that affects a person’s social media use such as culture, access and regulations, but the biggest one would have to be the availability of these services.
