Week 5 – Journal Entry 5

.For money – Financial gain is the most straightforward and common reason people commit cybercrimes. Whether it’s stealing, scamming, or fraud, money is a huge motivator.

.Revenge – When people are hurt or feel betrayed, they might turn to cybercrimes like hacking or leaking info as a way to get back at someone.

.Political – Some hackers are motivated by their political views and want to make a statement, like in the case of hacktivism or spreading political messages online.

.Recognition – People in online communities sometimes do cybercrimes to gain respect or fame. They want to prove their skills and get attention.

.Multiple reasons – Many offenders have more than one reason, like wanting money and recognition or revenge, so their motives are more complex.

.Entertainment – Some might do it just for the thrill or fun, but it’s less common than other motives since the risks involved aren’t worth it for most.

.Boredom – While boredom can lead to impulsive actions, it’s the least serious motivator and usually doesn’t lead to major crimes.
