A framework “are sets of documents describing guidelines, standards, and best practices designed for cyber security risk management.” A framework is highly helpful because, it can prevent a company from being infiltrated by hackers attacking their network. In today’s society with everyone being digital like, personal documents, bank accounts, and photos it is vital to keep your network protected at all times. There are many different types of frameworks that I have been recently introduced to from reading. Five core activities of NIST’s Cybersecurity are Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. An important step when identifying is finding any weakness that are prone to be taken advantage of by an unwanted user. Another one is risk management strategy which is needed because, no matter how much security you think you may have there is always someone out there who is skilled enough to breach the system. Next is protect, which is a word that first comes to mind when you think of security. When protecting organizational resources, they are watched over by routine maintenance checks. Another core activity is detecting, which plays a huge part to bring awareness to the team to prevent unwanted events. Additionally respond is a step some would overlook because, they cannot imagine their network being harmed. Realistically in today’s world it is only a matter of time and it’s important to know what you would do to keep your organization above water. Communicating with the team to be on the same page and having a plan established is essential. Lastly, is recover which in case of an emergency afterwards the organization would need to restore files on the system. I believe all organizations should use these core activities in their own way which could prevent future headaches an benefit them.
