From watching the video and from our readings in class I have come to understand that the media distorts public perception of hacking quite a bit. I myself at a young age was a part of this false perception, growing up watching films like War Games. Most media depicts hacking as an almost mystical act. With hackers typing away extremely fast (what?) and speaking nonsense jargon. All of this seems to make the deal about protecting yourself almost impossible. How is a lay person supposed to stop a mystical force like a hacker. But there is nothing mystical about cybersecurity, there is just a lack of knowledge. If we push past the media version of cybersecurity and implement easy best practice defenses we can all be better off.
