This Sandbox Essay for Langston Hughes’ “A Theme For English B” focuses on how the main character is held back by certain instances within his experience, and how his experience differs from his professor, causing the question of learning, and how education is distributed in regards to race, economic status/ affluence, and other. When applying this theory you get a more in depth look at what Langston Hughes is trying to convey. At the end of the poem it is kind of apparent, but rereading the text, and applying African American criticism, enables the reader to look at why Langston Hughes wrote the poem, as well as what inspired him to, which is a system designed to keep people where they are, no matter where that might be, unless you are allotted resources.
