Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
Throughout this semester, reading the discussion articles, watching the discussion videos, and completing the discussion assignments educated me on Spanish culture more than any other assignment.
These practices involved reading and understanding Spanish interactions and even Spanish educational institutions. Through my reading, I learned many things about Spanish culture: It is elegant and beautiful. The colors are bright and overall the feeling when learning these materials is energetic. Learning about this specific culture has revealed to me that our own culture in America is dull and bland. One example is the way that people of the Spanish culture greet each other with a kiss on each cheek. In our culture, greetings are much less personal and sometimes people barely acknowledge each other. There seems to be less joy and happiness here in America.
Engaging in Communities
The value and importance of engaging in the community are building relationships and connections with community members. An example of this is building relationships with other sports moms for when you may need your child to have a ride to the game. Building connections allow for community involvement.
In my community, our company is involved in events such as the Christmas parade. My kids also participated!

Interpersonal Communication
Throughout the semester, we completeed several activites that involved havin a verbal conversation. Two of these assignments were completed virtually through a real live conversation with our professor. The other verbal assignments were conducted with FlipGrid, a recording platform in which we recorded over our professor, simulating a conversation.
My first oral conversation assignment was conducted through a zoom meeting in which my professor and I were face to face. Nerve-racking is the best way I can describe the feelings I experienced during this assignment! This conversation was a little rocky, and I ended with a A- grade. I was surprised and thankful because I had a feeling I had done poorly.
The fourth and final conversation was classified as an oral exam. This assignment was also conducted via zoom and was face to face. Nervous and also excited, I began answering to the best of my recollection the questions asked by my professor. I passed all of the questions! My confidence is much greater in this language following that assigment.
Presentational Speaking
In addition to Spanish 101, I also took Public Communications. Initially, I had high hopes for this class because I felt that I had experience with speaking from the trainings I teach at my job. I was mistaken to say the least!
In this class we completed a total of four speeches: an Introduction Speech, a Persuasive Speech, an Informative Speech and a How-To Speech. Each speech was difficult, however the last one, the Persuasive Speech, was the worst. I fell well below the time requirement and I felt like I was monotone the entire time I was speaking. Overall, the class was my least favorite, however it did humble me and taught me that I had a long way to go before I can speak confidentially. Public speaking is a lot different than training employees!
