The reason that I’m interested in cybersecurity technology is because I feel that cybercrime is a dangerous and expensive threat to our country as well as the world. Many small and big businesses have been victims of cyberattacks with hackers taking their private data and information and using it to their advantage. Cyber-attacks like these can cost businesses millions depending on how bad the cyber-attack was and could also cost them their reputation towards consumers and any other businesses they cooperate with. With the basic teaching of cybersecurity and the implementation of a plan according to the companies’ objectives, the risk of cyber-attacks will be reduced and under control. Most of the citizens in the United States have been victims of cyber-attacks. Individuals are tricked into giving money to hackers, which are perceived to them as loved ones or relatives. Or sometimes individuals will be tricked into giving their account information to a hacker because the individual thinks the hacker is a part of a company. These common types of Phishing attacks have led individuals into despair knowing they gave away private and sensitive information to hackers. Cybersecurity can help stop these attacks by informing individuals the difference between real and fake emails. Now that modern civilization has fully moved into technology, whether it’s a ID card to scan into a building or phone scan to pay for food, I feel that everybody should be interested in cybersecurity. Malware and vicious code can make the difference between your private information being compromised or protected. My moms’ debit card was once hacked by hackers obtaining the credit card number and PIN, through an online purchase that was fraudulent. The hackers would rack up purchases on the card, ultimately spending a lot of money. Luckily, the bank was able to compensate for the cyber-attack. I’m interested and want to become a professional in cybersecurity to lower the number of cybercrimes happening yearly.
