After reading each individual motive in the slides, I think the reason for cybercrime that makes the most sense is for money. In this current era, money is important for survival paying for things like food, taxes, water bills, electricity, and shelter. Criminals also spend money on illegal things like drugs, prostitution, and illegal guns. I feel that whether an individuals’ activity is legal or illegal, their main goal is to generate income to obtain their wants and needs. After money, political reasons come as the second reason. Some individuals want to shed a bright light on problems and issues in their society. But when their wanted attention to those problems and issues isn’t met, Hack activists’ resort to illegal means. Hack activists want immediate change in society for the problems they feel need correcting, which makes a reasonable cause for cybercrime. Mutiple reasons is the third reason. Cyber criminals’ egotistical, socioeconomic and psychological factors are heavy influences into why they engage in cybercrime. Revenge is the fourth reason. Hackers may feel the need to act in retaliation toward a company that may have fired them or toward an ex-girlfriend or boyfriend who may have treated them wrongfully. Recognition is the fifth reason. Hackers may just want recognition or bragging rights for hacking a big company or industry. Entertainment is the second reason for cybercrime that makes least sense. Hackers may engage in cybercrime for a hobby or fun activity. Finally, the reason for cybercrime that makes the least sense is boredom. Hackers engaging in cybercrime because they have no hobby or nothing to do is disrespectful toward companies and individuals. Also, this reason has no motive or goal, which doesn’t really make it a reason at all.
