CYSE 406

Cyber Law

The course covers two main themes in the digital world: the legal issues impacting citizens and private entities, including cybersecurity, privacy, and intellectual property, and the legal authorities and limitations of U.S. government agencies involved in cyber investigations. It also addresses international legal and policy concerns in cyber operations, meeting the National Security Agency’s requirements for a Center for Cybersecurity Excellence in Operations.

In this exercise, I was tasked with writing a memorandum for Governor Karras of the State of Mongo to address concerns from constituents about the lack of personal data protection laws. I explained data privacy and protection issues, defined key terms like biometric data, PII, and GDPR, and provided suggestions on what additional protections the state could implement beyond existing federal laws. My memorandum also evaluated the feasibility of enacting laws similar to the GDPR in Mongo, outlining the potential benefits and challenges.

In my memorandum, I explained the importance of data protection, clarified key terms like PII, biometric data, and GDPR, and recommended areas where Mongo could pass new privacy laws. Overall, the goal is to create stronger safeguards over personal data to restore public trust and security.
