Many different issues can arise when storing electronic information about individuals. In response to this journal entry, I will be describing examples of those issues that can occur when storing an individual’s information electronically. The first concern that can arise when storing electronic information about individuals is privacy concerns. A lot of individuals input personal information online such as health records, financial standings, etc. When individuals store such things electronically, it could lead to unauthorized access or wrongful use of personal data. A second concern that could arise is hacking incidents. It is crucial to make sure electronic information is safely stored because if incidents, such as hacking occur, it can cause many problems for specific individuals with their information leaked online. A third concern that could arise when storing electronic information is inaccurate or misleading data. There are chances, that when storing inaccurate or misleading data, can further lead to incorrect decisions, or even harm one’s reputation due to the wrongful information. The fourth and final example of a concern that could arise is the ethical concern such as the transparency and consent when collecting an individual’s information and storing it electronically. If you do not have the individual’s consent and clear communication of how the electronic storing process will go, it can become a tricky situation further down the road.
When it comes to cybersecurity risks in the United States compared to other countries, the United States has significantly big risks. For this journal entry, I will be comparing cybersecurity risks in the United States compared to Russia. According to the Cybercrime Index that ranks countries by cybercrime threat level, Russia is ranked #1 while the United States is ranked #4. Both countries face similar challenges with cybercrime, but smaller differences in security and the progress of technology make one higher than the other. It can also be difficult to measure cybercrime in one country due to the criminals behind these acts make it very difficult to catch them or destroy the system they are using to do the crime. Even though solving cybercrimes can be difficult, it is important to continue to do so in order from us to continue to learn and prevent it from happening in the future.
