I had a nursing background before transferring to become a cybercrime major. I am very interested in making a difference and fixing the way technology is broken into. Technology is becoming more and more the core of this world. This means more involvement with technology and progression with the software. The security of everything needs someone to watch over them; however, most things are missed. I love how cybersecurity allows a platform of protection towards the future as everyday advances. It is crucial to keep up with the times and the crimes. If I can make a change and fix something to the advantage of others my day is made. As a nursing student before I would have never thought how important cybersecurity is for technology. Now, I love getting to learn and practice different ways to protect individuals’ credentials, lives, and privacy. The four other majors at Old Dominion University that I chose in relation to cybersecurity are cybercrime, criminology, computer engineering, and civil engineering technology. Cybercrime relates to cybersecurity because it is the aftermath of unsecure occurrences on technology. Cybersecurity tries to protect bad things from happening and cybercrime is what happened. They go very well hand in hand. It is important to know about cybercrime along with cybersecurity. Law and security go more hand in hand than people think. Criminology relates to cybersecurity of a way of stopping a bad outcomes from happening. Police try to prevent crime or from crime escalating. They are there for protection of others. Cybersecurity is trying to secure others and protect individuals from the bad guys as well just through technology. Computer engineering relates to cybersecurity from creating and managing the software to be a better protection. It also creates policies of protection of the data inside the computer. Civil engineering technology relates to cybersecurity in creating structural designs for future apps and site development for protection.
