Journal Entry #6

Everyone has once heard the statement that if you give someone enough freedom in their actions that it may eventually lead to their own downfall. This is an old cliché paraphrased and adapted to fit modern contexts, but essentially this phrase explains that if irresponsible and unfit personnel gain the wrong access, privileges, and freedom to do certain things, they will create chaos as opposed to facilitating the synergy that was intended to be created. This statement is especially applicable in todays workforce. Unfortunately, it seems that for every three diligent, hardworking, and attentive employees there is one dastardly, destructive, and irresponsible employee. On the same note, the amazingly productive work that the three responsible employees create, can be terrible offset by the irresponsibility of the one destructive employee. With everything being electronically integrated and the advancements continually being made in cyber technology, there are many pros that come with such endeavors. Of course, to every pro there is a con one of those being that there is now a greater opportunity for deviance in the workplace. This is not a rare occasion, as the possibilities are endless when analyzing the effects of cyber technology. These issues come into play when the “rotten apples” think that they can outsmart the systems and regulations put in place by the technology or when they decide to abuse their privileges despite the technology policies that were agreed to prior. One of the most common of those deviances that often occur is that bad employees chose to be off task as opposed to completing their assigned job. While they should be focused on work they chose to partake in aimless searching of the web or wasting time catching up on their favorite TV show they missed the night before. This type of behavior limits an enterprises growth and prevents them from getting prospective work that they could’ve secured if their staff was firing on all cylinders.
