In the digital age, data is everything. You can’t live without it and if so, you probably live in a log cabin out in the middle of the Grand Canyon. You would have to be that remote and out of touch, to not have a need for data. With there being so much data transmitted and data being such an instrumental part of the business structure, it is imperative that people are aware of how they should appropriately interact with, store, and transmit data. In the corporate world, there is an extreme need for the employees to be up to date on policy pertaining to device usage and data management. This calls for a cybersecurity plan that institutes the correct plan of action when dealing with sensitive and insensitive information. First there must be a clear distinction between the two as well as a clear plan of action of how the two should be managed. Next there should be systems set up to store and transmit that data. Lastly there should be a course of action established for those who violate the established terms and conditions. The beauty of instituting a cybersecurity plan sooner rather than later is that it saves a company millions of dollars in the long run. A cybersecurity plan can cost anywhere from the low to mid thousands. Unfortunately, what many organizations do, is forfeit the opportunity to have a solid cybersecurity program in which they can build before employing too many employees to watch at once. The moment an unwitting employee decides to violate the unspoken terms and conditions not mentioned by the organization, that organization is out of millions of dollars and may lose a lot of potential customers. Therefore, establishing a cybersecurity plan should be at the forefront of a business’ development. The benefits are immense and allows for a smooth operation externally, but more importantly internally.
