This sparked inspiration for my infographic. I took pictures of several plants in my home that are all apart of the same genus (philodendron). Then, I organized my information by shared and unique characteristics of each plant. A challenge that I encountered was deciding how to organize the information, because there are so many different ways you could do so based on your objective of the infographic. My objective for this assignment was to share small aspects that I thought were interesting about the plants that I own, but you could take this many ways if you were trying to educate your audience on how to take care of these plants, or how they are more closely related to other types of plants.
One way that I might use this with students is for them to pick a topic that they are interested in, and create an infographic to have posted in the library near it’s corresponding Dewey section. Every period, I teach a class called “Library Research”, which is a blend of being a teacher’s assistant, learning how to support the day to day functions of a library, and how to conduct research. I’ve decided that using Canva to create an infographic about their chosen research project will be apart of their work for this semester!
