After examining the background, vision and mission statements of a chosen library in order to develop the basic components of a strategic plan, I proposed the creation of a Library Media class that would provide an opportunity for students to learn the basic functions of running a library program. This proposed course is rooted in the theme of access, as the students would have access to learning transferable skills that could be used outside of a library setting as well as support one of the library’s goals of unlimited circulation through their expertise in shelving and shelf reading. This course would also allow for enrollment for our most impacted students (learning, developmentally, and behaviorally) from our Special Education programs housed within our school.
