I had some fun exploring the image editing tools for this week’s sandbox. I played around with all of them, but the two that I like the most are Pizap and Pixlr.

The image above was made using Pizap. I really liked all the features and editing options that this tool allowed. I played around with several different photos just to get a feel for all the different options to create this derivative (the meme creation option was especially fun, but in the end I chose not to post that creation).
While Pizap was fun, I also really enjoyed exploring the Pixlr tool, which I used to create the edit below. What I really like about Pixlr is that it has more than one set of editing tools. I used the Photomash Studio to create the image below. It did such a great job at cropping out the background of my original image.

Aside from Pixlr and Pizap, I also saw value in using Big Huge Labs. With this tool, I easily see myself having students use this to create a variety of things. The Badge Maker could be used to create a profile for a book character, which could be used for students to show their understanding of characterization.
Furthermore, I could also see myself having students use the Wanted Poster option on Tuxpi. For example, I could ask: if [insert character here] were to be on a wanted poster, what would it be for? To be able to create this, students would really have to know critical details about a character. Tuxpi and Big Huge Labs are both user friendly, so I feel that students can use them more easily than the tools that I chose to focus on this week.
I love the idea for using Big Huge Labs for the badge maker! I thought of using it for the trading card maker. I thought maybe they could make their favorite book character, as well! I love your edited pics, too! Great post, Amy!
I loved yourphotomash cutout. I didn’t even try that one. Thanks for the informative post!!!
I really like PiZap also. I didn’t try the photomash cutout on Pixlr, but I’m going back to do that.
Loved the editing on the butterfly image. You have a much steadier hand than I do to be able to cut out an image. Good Job!
I love your ideas for using Big Huge Labs! Great idea and great post!
I thought Big Huge Labs would be really great for younger students.
I really like your self portrait. I’ve been wanting to play with my own photos but haven’t tried it yet. Thanks for posting yours!
