This is a non-profit organization that is affiliated with the American Library Association. Their mission is to protect a library’s right to house books in their collection. They fight bans on books nationwide to ensure that books are available for all. They work to protect the First Amendment. They aid groups who are facing litigation and education as well.

This is a non-profit organization that works to ensure more diverse books are in circulation for children and young adults. It is important as a school librarian because they are working to make sure that all students can read something in which they can see themselves in the characters. They have various programs for parents, teachers, and librarians. 

Scholarly Journal:

This journal is a peer reviewed publication. It publishes articles that help keep interested parties informed on recent developments and issues in the field of library and information science. The papers come from practicing librarians, information workers, and academics. It helps to keep those in the field informed. 

Professional Associations:

This association is a division of the larger American Library Association. School librarians can seek membership with this organization, which focuses on school librarians and school library culture. It is important because it provides relevant and up to date information on things happening within the school library community. It also provides a network for school librarians to connect with each other.

This is a resource where librarians can search for jobs and information concerning the profession in Virginia. Members receive benefits including network connections, scholarly journals, and support of library education. They host conferences and events for librarians to come together to discuss issues of importance to the library community.

This is an association that focuses on issues that relate to school librarianship. Similar to its larger counterpart, it focuses on making sure its members are up to date on issues in the library community. They host annual conferences where school librarians can come together to network and share ideas. They act as a voice for all of Virginia’s school librarians.
