As a professional, continuing to learn is important to stay up to date on the latest technology, network with fellow professionals around our district, our state or even nationally. There are so many wonderful examples of ways to continue learning as a librarian. I am a member of American Library Association (ALA) and Virginia Association of School Librarians (VASSL). This provides me with the opportunity to attend the regional conference each spring and the state conference in late fall.
I collaborate with the librarians in my district as well as with our regional librarians. I use various forms of social media to collaborate with librarians around the world and to follow authors. The School Library Journal is a magazine that I subscribe to and it is a wonderful resource that provides articles that cover a wide variety of topics that keep school librarians up to date on technology and multimedia.

The certificate above is from the workshop that all Region 8 librarians attended to collaborate and learn about the AASL Standards that were recently released. As a new librarian, this was a wonderful opportunity for me to meet the librarians in my region and make wonderful professional connections. We all shared the many ways that we were implementing the standards in our libraries.
