In this collaborative collection development assignment, students worked as a team to assemble a targeted library collection within a designated budget. My group’s chosen focus was to support the science curriculum for Grades 4 and 5 students at Point O’View Elementary School, specifically addressing plant science to combat learning loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The task involved selecting a variety of educational materials, such as books, digital resources, and hands-on learning tools, all while adhering to a budget constraint. Each selected item was evaluated for its currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and educational purpose, ensuring the collection directly supports the Virginia Standards of Learning for Grade 4 science, thereby aiding students in improving their science comprehension and performance.
