As we push off to the future and discover new ways to serve patrons and determine which methods should remain constant. The ALA helps guide our footsteps in the right direction.

The ACRL is the higher education association for academic libraries and library workers. ACRL develops programs, products, and services to help those working in academic and research libraries learn, innovate, and lead within the academic community.” I feel that the ACRL will provide the professional benchmarks and networking opportunities that I will need to be a viable academic librarian.

The purpose of the Virginia Library Association is to develop, promote, and improve library and information services, library staff, and the profession of librarianship in order to advance literacy and learning and to ensure access to information in the Commonwealth of Virginia.” VLA offers an important partnership for Commonwealth of Virginia librarians and institutions. Literacy and learning are the bedrock of librarianship and very important to my personal and professional aspirations and goals.

The Association of Research Libraries is a forum for the exchange of ideas and a catalyst for collective action to create, share, and sustain our global knowledge. ” I am very passionate about research and assisting others with research. I feel that this organization will serve as a valid partner in my goal of being a research librarian.

Hack Library School is a collaborative blog that began in the Fall of 2010. It quickly grew from a Google Doc to a wiki to the rotating group of contributors that it is today. HLS was founded on the principle of students taking the future of librarianship into their own hands.” This blog will serve as a handy tool as a venture into the unknown waters of library school. It will keep me up to date on happenings in library school and happenings in the professional library landscape.

ACRLog is a blog that aims to discuss the issues of the day in the field of academic and research librarianship. It will strive to get you thinking about what you do, why you do it, and how it fits into this enterprise we call higher education. We are passionate about academic librarianship so we will call it the way we see it.” This blog will serve as another important tool keeping me up to date on what is going on in academic librarians. It will notify me of what current research is available in the field. It will help me be more prepared to be an asset to my colleagues and library patrons.

It is a supplement to American Libraries magazine that provides summaries and links to news, announcements, and other information of interest to library and information science professionals.” American Libraries Direct provides informative content on what is going on in libraries today. It helps enable librarians to interact effectively with patrons and colleagues in a variety of ways.

Librarianship Studies & Information Technology is a blog of Library and Information Science. It is a rewarding and internationally acclaimed blog for the Libraries, Librarians, Catalogers, Information Scientists, LIS Faculty, and research scholars. The blog meets the needs of students, researchers, and working professionals. The blog aims to provide a world-class education in library and information sciences globally.” This blog serves a wonderful resource covering a melange of areas if Library Information Science. It offers many professional and networking opportunities for librarians.

It will serve as a great resource for librarian instruction, professional research, and professional development opportunities.

This organization offers a dual purpose in being a provider of needed information and offering an opportunity to partner with this organization and support its goals.

Writing.com provides a platform for writers, reviewers wanting to offer feedback, and it is a place for writers to store their work. This would be a good resource to suggest to students wanting to become better writers by practicing and reading the work of other writers. This resource is also good for collaboration and research for professionals as well. As a writer myself I would enjoy using this as a resource professionally and personally.

Open Library is a website dedicated to providing all books free on the internet. As a supporter of literacy and opening up a desire for students of all ages to be avid readers; I feel this resource is very important. The ultimate goal of the Open Library is to make all the published works of humankind available to everyone in the world. This resource gives access to books for everyone. The website encourages users to donate money and books to the cause. I think this is a wonderful vehicle for librarians to promote reading to students and colleagues.

Founded in 2008, HathiTrust is a not-for-profit collaborative of academic and research libraries preserving 17+ million digitized items. HathiTrust offers reading access to the fullest extent allowable by U.S. copyright law, computational access to the entire corpus for scholarly research, and other emerging services based on the combined collection. HathiTrust members steward the collection — the largest set of digitized books managed by academic and research libraries — under the aims of scholarly, not corporate, interests. HathiTrust is a wonderful resource for librarians in support of their institutions and students. This resource will enable me to be a better researcher and research librarian for my future students and faculty.

The Mr. Library Dude Blog is focused on lifelong learning and student success. The Blog promotes the user experience and organizational leadership. As for Mr. Librarian Dude, the focus on the blog is about people that use the library, and people that help libraries operate. The Mr. Library Dude Blog provides a very good view of academic libraries and what is going on for librarians working in the library, other staff members, and the students. I feel that this blog would help to stay aware of the pulse of the library and what is important in being a major part of the daily flow of the library.

A Library Writer’s Blog helps librarians identify publishing and presentation opportunities in library & information science, as well as other related fields. The blog include calls for papers, presentations, participation, reviewers, and other relevant notices that can be found on the web. This blog was very appealing as it deals with librarians and writing. In being a writer myself I think it is very important to see what is being published and what is viable to the field. This blog would provide the information and offer the opportunity to submit my own research to the cause.

Historically Library Journal has worked hand in hand with the libraries of the United States assisting in its organization as a profession. Library Journal served as a partner in the national and global network of libraries took their place in town squares, campus centers, and schools. As libraries have adapted, Library Journal has served as an important asset in leading the field through the trends and discoveries necessary to keep libraries thriving. The Library Journal helps librarians keep a pulse on where libraries have been in the past, where libraries exist now, and to look to the future. It is always good to keep all three perspectives in view when developing research, programming, and services to our patrons. Library Journal will assist in my preparation for becoming a librarian and follow me into my career.
