The Space and Physical Access
The Woodberry Forrest Prep school library was built in 2017 serving grades 9-12. It is in Orange County Virginia off Route 15 on a 1200-acre campus in Central Virginia. This three-story building is staffed by three Librarians, one Director, one Assistant Director and a Research & information Services Library Assistant Archivist. There is no noticeable diversity within the staff at the William H. White, Jr. Library. There is diversity within the teaching faculty and staff for the students and other areas on campus. This all-boys school library’s mission is to serve the academic needs of the students promoting life-long learning in a Christian based atmosphere.
Services, Access, and collection
This library provides an AV Center, collaborative study spaces, quiet reading rooms, and self-checkout stations within the Walker building. Some of the services provided are Go Pro’s, kindles, cameras, and Sony handy cams. The collection is accessible through an online OPAC catalog. They use the Dewey Decimal classification system for discovery.

This seems like a very fancy library for a school! It is so cool that they check out cameras and kindles. I wonder what the differences would be between an all-boys and an all-girls school library.

This looks like a lovely school library. I’m curious about how the GoPros and handy cams are used—whether they get checked out for coursework or if they’re just there for student interest. I also wonder about how diverse or specific the library’s collections are and whether you can tell that it belongs to an all-boys, Christian school.

The William H. White, Jr. Library looks like a great space with a lot of natural light. The prep school itself that surrounds the library is beautiful! Being that it is a prep school, it feels almost more like an academic library than a school library. I’m impressed with some of the services that they have available to the students from the GoPros to the kindles and the streaming services. Those services are not available at the other school libraries that I’ve seen!

l like that there is diverse staff in the prep school for boys. I also am impressed by the lending of cameras. These are really expensive cameras for students I like the woodwork featured in the pictures. I would think it would make it dark in the rooms but has a masculine feel for boys.

I think it’s interesting what kind of technology the William H. White Jr. Library provides. I haven’t heard of a library having access to Go Pros or cameras. I like how there is diversity among the teaching staff. If only it would be included in the library staff. What exactly is an AV center?
