This teacher’s guide designed for seventh graders pairs fiction middle grade book Stella by Starlight with the non-fiction They Called Themselves the K.K.K. Both texts, targeted toward middle grade students, take on the challenging topic of racism during post civil war America. The teacher’s guide includes introductory activities, a bulletin board plan, discussion questions and connection questions. In addition, there are three suggested teaching ideas, connecting these texts to seventh grade History, English, and Music SOLS.
