{"id":337,"date":"2022-05-22T23:21:56","date_gmt":"2022-05-22T23:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/mlis-eweid001\/?p=337"},"modified":"2022-05-22T23:21:56","modified_gmt":"2022-05-22T23:21:56","slug":"sandbox-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/mlis-eweid001\/2022\/05\/22\/sandbox-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Sandbox #1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Word Cloud<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/Xnb5vzTYQ03tvW_XsixLem95AeqIpIS6BpCQWIdFQ0pHaeCZQyUtsije9CI0g1ah65ByzXCXubiL7dAMnAWRNZEPDQB4kkJLVANlFH5q9rOfqoC_pXP4cKRXxi92WwEPxuNQ1_bKFHDFcIYb-Q\" width=\"624\" height=\"664\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spent way too many hours playing with word clouds and still do not feel like an expert, but I played in the sandbox and explored the available tools on each site.\u00a0 My most recent experience with word cloud was in a professional development meeting at the beginning of the school year.\u00a0 It was announced we would become a pilot school for Canvas.\u00a0 Teachers were asked to contribute their thoughts through a word cloud on transitioning from Schoology to Canvas.\u00a0 The word cloud was displayed to the group through this warm-up activity, and it grew, and became more colorful and honest.\u00a0 Teachers began to laugh and relax with this icebreaker activity.\u00a0 It brought humor and lightness to a contentious topic.\u00a0 I could see word clouds being used in a professional development setting, as I appreciated the activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can use word cloud in my classes as an introduction to a topic for an icebreaker.\u00a0 I am accustomed to using KWL style charts for introducing new units.\u00a0 Three columns &#8211; K: what do you know about this topic?\u00a0 W: what do you want to know?\u00a0 L:\u00a0what have you learned (at the end of the lesson).\u00a0 I liked <a href=\"https:\/\/wordart.com\">Wordart<\/a> because it had a lot of templates of images to use.\u00a0 I could have an image relating to the topic, for example, I created a word cloud with the image of a hot cup of coffee.\u00a0 I then described the characteristics of coffee and its qualities.\u00a0 I also added my opinions, past experiences, and background knowledge of the topic.\u00a0 I also like word clouds for personal introductions as we introduced ourselves for this sandbox activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"404\" height=\"307\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/JI_OnAqrax4YYINcDGK7f6vsR8yGmoc4Mdm9D42BDDkqB3h-P-696qEt0URWVt97ew5VDIWR8vBFaV3xrIAbcnA6RhqRpz4wkR7MoDIfyBQydizoN90tbPdC44WJlVlK5TY4a1Hf0IiTBbWIug\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abcya.com\/games\/word_clouds\">ABCya Word Cloud<\/a> felt more elementary level to me but I was impressed with the final product.  I liked the color combinations it offered and I felt the vintage-style font fit the colors well.
