I remember back in my high school English class; we made our own podcast for an assignment inspired by This American Life, and I had lot of fun creating them back then. I remember that when we were doing ours that we used just our phone microphone and voice recorder which did not provide the best quality. I tested out some of the audio recording websites like Vocaroo and Online-voice-recorder.com and both were easy to use and had good quality. Although I had never used them before, it was pretty straight forward. I like how they are free to use so that doesn’t limit teachers or students and one online-voice-recorder.com, it gives a lot of editing software that would come in handy for an assignment like making your own podcast. It was easy to find how to save the recording and upload it if I needed to so I would definitely use those two sites if I wanted to record anything or in the future for a class.
I also explored the audio library YouTube channel and found a large collection of all kinds of free to use music. All of the videos on that channel also provide links to download your song of choice which is helpful I also like how the thumbnail includes a description of the genre of music as well as the emotion like happy or dramatic.
Lastly I looked at Voki, which is a site that allows you to customize your own character and have them say whatever you type in, as long as it is under three hundred characters. I thought it would be fun to use this site if a class was playing jeopardy or something like that, just to add more creativity to the game. The only real downside to the site is that sometimes the voice can mispronounce things which had me trying to figure out the correct phonetic spelling in order to get something that was close to the sound.
I am a huge fan of podcasts! I listen to one every day in my car on the way to work and back home, so I had fun listening to the ones provide this week. I chose to listen to a humor based podcasts since those are the ones I normally listen to and chose the Drunk Librarians podcast. They are hilarious as well as unashamed in telling the truth about books. I listened to the episode on There is Someone in Your House by Stephanie Perkins, which is a book I read as a teenager and had some lukewarm feelings towards. It was like sitting with friends as I listened to them have similar opinions that I have now while my inner teenager was supporting this book on nostalgia alone. I think it definitely could be useful as a librarian since book recommendations are always good as well as books people do not recommend. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I will continue watching!
I am going to go back and listen to the Drunk Librarians podcast. It sounds interesting and useful.
