The ALA is a crucial part of the Library and Information Science world but can be too general of a source to use. I chose this branch of it as a way to narrow the information I would receive from it. As someone who is currently pursuing school librarianship, a source with news updates and standards for the branch of librarianship is important. I believe that it will supply me with professional resources as well as a community.

Library Trends

No matter what kind of librarian you are, it is to stay up to date on new trends like technology or practices so that our libraries can provide the best service. This journal provides reviews and discussions on new trends quarterly throughout the year. I believe that it’s well resourced articles will assist me as I grow in the field and adapt to the changes that certainly will come.

The Journal of Academic Librarianship

Although I am aiming for a school librarianship, I always want to keep my mind open to all this field can offer me. The variety of this field is what drew me to it and what keeps me in it. Academic librarianship is something I have been looking into since my interview with a local college library director, so this source is perfect in keeping me up to date in this branch.

No Shelf Required

This is an award winning blog that has actually been in partnership with ALA before and provides information to a number of areas such as: libraries, scholarly publishing, and education. All of those topics interested me greatly and with it coming from a reputable source, I am sure that I will find their information useful as I continue down my path.

Going Green @your library

Sustainability is important now more than ever with climate change happening right before our eyes. Libraries have to think of ways to provide more sustainable services for their environment. While this blog is currently inactive (but not closed), I think that it provides excellent ideas and resources to other sites and information that will be helpful in years to come.

The Daring Librarian

This is a personal blog from a librarian writing on different ideas and activities that school librarians can use in their own schools. I love her creativity and clear passion for this profession. Reading through some of her articles got my own mind working of different ideas to apply to her original ones.

WATCH. CONNECT. READ.

This blog includes different reviews and updates on upcoming and new children’s books for librarians. Creating a good collection for the community I serve is always important so it is helpful to get another opinion on what is the best book to choose for the library. The reviews are in-depth and give a good scope about the book. I truly enjoy his reviews and I will continue to look at them in the future.

I do not plan on leaving my home state Virginia for a good while so I want to have a community of likeminded professionals to help me. I have watched some of the zoom meetings that they’ve had and have already learned so much as well as opened my horizon.

Urban Libraries Council | LinkedIn

I wholeheartedly stand with this organizations mission of enriching the minds and proving knowledge and technology to those who need it. Diversity is important to me as a black female who grew up in a primarily white town. I love the emphasis on educating their professionals and the initiatives and programs that they provide.

This is another blog that is made for school librarians that I thought could be helpful in my career. They include articles from active librarians and their opinions on different issues as well as hold events for school librarians. This source is great for networking and seeing different perspectives on issues in the field.
