Image Creation + Citation

The first image below was found on pixabay.com and edited using pizap.com. I was impressed with how incredibly user friendly pizap.com is. Once you navigate to the site it is as easy as dragging and dropping your photo to upload it for editing. The toolbar on the left side of the website made editing and adding text effortless. Once I was done editing all I had to do was click on the save icon at the top and generate a personalized file name. I could see myself using pizap.com in order to create something on the fly for a webpage, slides, or a social media post. I don’t recommend using pizap.com if you are planning on printing the image, the free version will be too small, thus making the image quality poor.

This image above of Malcolm X was found on pixabay.com and edited using pixlr.com. Pixlr.com is a more advanced photo editing program compared to pizap.com, which has a similar interface to Adobe Photoshop. The interface requires the use of layers, which allows for a more customizable image, unfortunately some of the more creative features of the program require a subscription. I don’t recommend pixlr.com for beginners since it requires the use of layers, which can be a bit confusing. On a final note I would recommend researching Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom if you are looking to make an investment in graphic design software.

    • Thanks! Grayscale is one of my favorite color schemes to play around with, I love the simplicity.

  2. Knowing you do photography, I was very curious to see how you approached this assignment. I love your final edits!

Your comments about piZap vs. Pixlr are interesting. I am NOT experienced or confident at all with image editing, and I wondered whether any of these tools could compare with what I’ve always heard about Photoshop. Apparently so! I’ve also heard very good things about the open-source GIMP editor. Is there a similar comparison there as well?

  3. Thank you for the kind words! I haven’t used GIMP editor but after Googling it, it too looks similar to Adobe Photoshop. I use the Adobe Creative Cloud because I don’t just use one program, I mainly use Premiere Pro and Media Encoder since I work with video. From time to time I also use other Adobe products like After Effects, some Lightroom, and some Photoshop when I want to tinker around with photos. Another great thing about Adobe CC is because it is subscription based, and you can download whatever programs you need within the Adobe family. I apologize for the long winded reply, I hope I answered your question.

  4. I love the black and white photographs you have chosen and the edits you made. I too was interested in what you would post being in photography. I preferred using pixabay to find my photos as well. I also found piZap to be user friendly.
