Presentation + Curation Tools
Presentation Tools
Prezi
Prezi.com allows the user to get right to work with its easy to navigate interface and ready to use templates. Once I picked a topic I wanted to present I was able to get right to work with one of the templates. The the prefabricated template I was able to customize to my own liking, taking away and adding my specific design choices . Prezi allows the user to not only make presentations, but also charts, infographics, and dashboards. I highly recommend using Prezi for both teachers and students alike.
Haiku Deck
Haikudeck.com is a trial based platform used for giving a more traditional presentation. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything that really wowed me within the program. I would recommend using Google Slides or something that is free before paying the $5 subscription to Haiku Deck.
Curation Tools
Symbaloo
Symbaloo.com is a great organizational tool that allows the user to keep track of multiple URLs. The interface is established with ’tiles’, which are easy to create and move around to the users liking. If you are familiar with the iPhone interface than Symbaloo will feel very familiar. The tiles allow the user to house more than one tile within a specified area, similar to creating folders on an iPhone. In addition tabs can also be crated in order to house different sets of tiles. In conclusion I can understand how Symbaloo can be an overall useful organizational tool for students and educators. I would recommend this tool to anyone that has trouble with organization.
Live Binders
Getting started with Live Binder for the first time was an enjoyable experience. The tutorial first navigates you through the process of uploading files and choosing a cover page for your project. Live Binder is a straight forward tool that allows the user to easily keep track of documents and stay organized. Although the interface is lackluster, the overall navigation is straightforward. I recommend Live Binder to anyone who is more comfortable with a simple design and workspace.

Good catch on the iPhone tiles familiarity with Symbaloo. That is not something I recognized as such, but it’s really significant! That would make Symbaloo a good choice for any district that uses iPads. Unfortunately during virtual learning in my district, Gr. 2-12 worked on Chromebooks while PK-1 got iPads. Those youngest ones had constant trouble with accessibility because everything the district subscribed to was really designed for Chromebook use. I wish we would have known to suggest Symbaloo to my long-suffering K colleagues!

Your Prezi turned out awesome! It is one of my favorite presentation tools also. I used LiveBinders a few years ago with my older elementary students and have forgotten about it. I need to give it another try. Thanks, Ian.

Great presentation. I loved the first slide. I didn’t know anything about the subject but you presented so that it was a simple introduction and engaging to want to learn more.

I’m glad you created the gameboard template. This one really caught my eye. I was tempted to use this one myself but could not figure out how I would use this with the Hawaii photos.

I have to agree with AnnaLisa, I did not recognize the similarity with Symbaloo and iPhones. That could be so helpful for visual students. I just looked at it as one more organizational tool, which it feels like there are oh so many out there right now that I just can’t tae one more. : )

I love the idea of DIY gameboards! This might be a tool that I use for Fun Friday activities in my classroom!
