Hi Ian. Wow! What a beautiful library. That sensory garden is delightful; I think I would spend a whole day out there if given a chance. You make great points that address diversity and accessibility and ways to remedy these hurdles. It would be great if Staunton could get a second library like you said, but I am glad the city is taking some initiative to try to include lower-income housing residents.

Staunton Public Library looks very much like a historical library; I didn’t realize how used to modern (well, 1960’s+) designs I was until I saw your presentation. It’s got a very academic-looking exterior and reminds me of older college campuses. I’m really impressed with the outside spaces around the library like the sensory garden and that little space with the flowers. I feel like plants and trees somehow make a library more inviting, even if the architecture is imposing.

I agree, it is definitely more of a traditional look versus the modern libraries we see in some of the bigger cities. Staunton is very proud of the aesthetic that traverses throughout the city.
