Instructions
Standard 1 refers to different areas of teaching for learning. I believe that I showed mastery of this standard in every assignment that I completed for my library science endorsement program. Specifically, my projects showed that I was knowledgeable of my students and their needs, and that I approached the lessons as an effective and knowledgeable teacher. I completed several collaborative projects which demonstrated my willingness and ability to work with an instructional partner, such as my Collaboration Unit. Each of my assignments stated the AASL standards that were being covered by the lesson so that I could be certain that I had integrated several AASL standards into the framework of the assignment.
Standard 2 refers to literacy and reading. I demonstrated mastery of this standard with my reading challenges and summer reading promotion project, along with my children’s literature class which required reading across many different levels and genres. I created my summer reading program website for students, which included several reading lists, allowing for reading promotion. My collaborative group members and I also planned out many different fun activities that would promote summer reading, such as a book club, STEM club, library lock-ins, and book Bingo. My booklist for the reading challenge shows that I read across many different styles and genres, which shows respect for diversity. My collaborative plan and several lessons showed my mastery of using literary strategies because in each of these lessons, I used collaborative partners to create lessons which reinforced a wide variety of reading instructional strategies for children of all ages.
Standard 3 refers to information and knowledge. I was able to show mastery of this standard through my collaborative project, which allowed me to model multiple strategies for students and other teachers as well as efficiently access, interpret, and communicate information. My collaborative project allowed students to access information in many formats and use digital tools and resources. Students were instructed on how to use many different digital tools in order to research, learn, create, and communicate within a digital society. The assessments that I created within this project allowed me to collect data based on evidence and interpret that data to show growth, understanding, and mastery among my students.
Standard 4 refers to advocacy and leadership. I was able to show mastery of this standard with my Advocacy Plan project. In this project, I accounted for a networking plan within the library community and with stakeholders, such as students, teachers, parents, and administrators. My advocacy plan also called for professional development for teachers within the school system. I was able to use evidence-based practice and information from education and library research from my project in order to communicate ways in which the library program can enhance school improvement efforts. My role as librarian allows me to advocate for my school library and its resources and programs.
Standard 5 refers to program management and administration. I believe that I have mastered this standard because I successfully created a collection development plan in which I evaluated and selected many different types of resources for my collection and created a collection which met the diverse needs of my patrons. My advocacy plan allowed me to show mastery of professional ethics because it accounted for advocacy of intellectual freedom and privacy along with promoting and modeling digital citizenship. Both my collection plan and advocacy plan accounted for applying best practices in terms of planning, budgeting, and evaluating resources.
