Memory Institution Merger: An Exploration into the Relationship Between Archives and Museums

In this research assignment for LIBS 693: Seminar in Archives, I chose to explore the ways in which different cultural heritage institutions actually fall under the same umbrella of “memory institutions”. I highlighted how these institutions have traditionally operated separately from each other, yet their goals and objectives are often the same. In this paper, I discussed how institutions such as archives, libraries and museums may benefit from cooperative initiatives and what these partnerships may look like. I also provided examples of existing mergers between these institutions and the impact this has on the communities they serve.
