LIBS 602 Sandbox 3

on

I used Canva to create my infographic about the top ten dog breeds in America.  I liked Canva because it had a large selection of images and it paired fonts that work well together.  I decided to create my own infographic because I found that I deleted so much from the templates, that it was easier to start with a blank slate.  I chose a simple color combination of blue and white with a touch of black to keep with what we learned in our book.  Less is more (Reynolds, 2014).

I tried some of the other infographic sites as well.  I liked the templates in easel.ly but they had very few free images to select from.  They also did not store previous projects like Canva did.  I did not end up using Piktochart because it required that I accept cookies and create a free account which I did not want to do.

Creating an infographic is definitely something for older students to experiment with. I think younger children would struggle not only with the tools but with organizing information in a meaningful way.  If we did use it in elementary school, we could create one whole group that discussed the proper way to care for books for example.  Another idea might be to create one to discuss how to select a just right book.

    Great Job on your sandbox#3!
I loved that you choose dogs. I have a bulldog so I love that they are included in the top 10!

Thank you for the informative post on canva. I used piktochart so it was nice to see the differences. I bet it was hard to create your own infographic without a template. You did a great job with your circles and arrows!

Like you I am more of a keeping it simple person so I love the simplicity of the colors and information. Even after reading your post I immediately remember the top dogs that I see in your post which is what you want your viewers to take away. There is nothing that is distracting!

    Great job!

Thank you! It was almost easier to create this one from scratch because I needed ten bullets with this topic. I actually just got a real estate flyer in the mail and saw these same arrows in one of their images. Now I know how they did it. I appreciate your feedback.

I’m impressed you created you infographic without a template. I was not ready for that! I think your infographic was effective and well made.

I hope it was okay that I made that decision because I was not satisfied with the look using the templates. I appreciate the feedback.

#7 – Beagles have my heart! I have one, my Mateo is 11.5 years young! We just came back from the park and he is exhausted. I like the simplicity in this infographic and ease of use. I can easily hop from #1 to #2 and so on. I am impressed you created this all on your own without a template! Nice job!

Nice evening for the dog park. Glad your Mateo was represented. My Teddy is a mutt so he is not, lol. I agree my infographic is a bit simple. It might have been nice to add some fun facts about a few of the breeds for instance. It was good practice for our next assignment though. Thanks for checking out my blog.

One of my drafts was used creating a blank template. For me, I think it was too much freedom, lol. I was all over the place. The template acted like guardrails and kept me on the road. Also, love that you chose dogs! My own pup is a German Shepherd/lab mix.

I love this theme for an inforgraphic! I am also going to “brag” as I have the number 1 pooch on the list haha. I was surprised at some of the names that were top ten. I feel like as the poodle mixes get more popular they might be taking a spot soon!

My sweet Tilley (chocolate lab) is number one on the list! I love your topic, simplicity of your infographic, and color choice. I am so impressed you did it without a template! I couldn’t quite get mine the way I liked. Great job!
