About Me

“A good library will never be too neat, or too dusty, because somebody will always be in it, taking books off the shelves and staying up late reading them.”

Welcome to my E-Portfolio page which showcases the work I have completed throughout my time in the ODU MLIS program! My name is Kat D’Amico, and I am a Library Media Assistant at an elementary school in Dumfries, Virginia. After graduating with a Psychology degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas I spent many years volunteering at school libraries where I discovered my passion for children’s literature. Later I was employed at the largest public library in Nebraska as a Library Aide, but I missed the school environment. I decided to return to the school setting as a Library Media Assistant in a rural community outside of Omaha, Nebraska. Years later I moved to Virginia where I began my current employment at Swans Creek Elementary.

I began the MLIS program at Old Dominion in the spring of 2022 with the hope of one day becoming an elementary school librarian. My years of experience in libraries have taught me the importance of nurturing a child’s love of reading at an early age. I strive one day to be the person to help educate and foster these students.
