Serif VS Sans
I couldn’t resist posting this infographic as well, and I envy the mind that created it. This is an excellent visual of fonts, and it is perfectly balanced through color and personification of the images. Even the stripes in each letter indicate opposites. This is streamlined, easily understood, and highly effective because of its simplicity.
Hip Hop Blueprint
I love this infographic because it shows the impacts of pioneering artists/genres on more contemporary ones. Learning is all about making connections, and though we say often say that in education, instruction often fails to do so. I used to teach Portrait of the Artist as A Young Man, by James Joyce, and my students really struggled with the complex narration of the bildungsroman. However, when we shared our opinions of the novel (I don’t really care for it, honestly), one of the things we discussed was how pioneering it was. Without Joyce, Jane Austin and JK Rowling would have no roadmap to follow and expand upon. Thus, while many students remained steadfast in their disapproval of Portrait…all could appreciate Joyce’s craft and influence. This infographic conveys that connection perfectly, without a lengthy explanation or lecture, and with an engaging topic. I can clearly see that A Tribe Called Quest was both early and innovative in the hip-hop field, and I can trace Tribe’s connection and influence to other artists. While there are a lot of hip-hop artists, the connections are simplified by the clean lines connecting them like a family tree, and despite so many artists being included, the use of font style and size along with simple contrasting colors make it easy to understand an overwhelming amount of information. As I read on Shrock’s website, this infographic makes the complicated simple. I also love that it alludes to music awards with its gold and black. This infographic uses an artful and sophisticated approach to pay homage to great artists.

Hi Nancy-I realized I never told you how much I love this infographic and how cool it would be to adapt it for so many novels (or history lessons)! Also, I’m definitely a fan of A Tribe Called Quest and seeing them at the center of an infographic was pretty awesome.
