Philosophy

The school library should be “learner-centered, with personalized learning tailored to the needs of each student, and responsive to cultural differences in a real-world context” (Rubin and Rubin, 2020).

I believe that a school librarian’s goal should be to promote literacy and different styles of learning that enable students to extend their education beyond the walls of the school building.  I can do this in a variety of ways.   I will curate collections in the library that are of high quality, interest and represent diverse cultures.  I will mold my collections so that each student is not only able to see themselves in the books on my shelves, but can also use books as a window into other’s lives as well.  This will ensure that the students who walk into my library are learning to become global citizens.

I believe in collaborating with administrators, teachers and students in order to deliver experiences that enhance their learning and adhere to the curriculum.  I will help students reach their full potential by offering a variety of different learning experiences that are innovative and immersed in technology.  I will guide students to use library resources in a safe and responsible manner that elevates their classroom experiences.

Above all, I will maintain a library that is rich in experiences that allow students to feel safe, welcome and part of a community of learners.
