This collaboration unit was designed for 9th-grade students who attend the Achievable Dreams Academy in Virginia Beach. I worked in collaboration with a middle school library media specialist and a 9th grade Language Arts teacher to create and present this unit. This unit introduced the students to the databases that are available to them in order for them to complete an opinion research paper. Students created questions they wanted to answer with their research, they learned what databases are most helpful, and they evaluated and analyzed the effectiveness of each database. Students also learned the definition of plagiarism and how to avoid it, how to create citations, and how to paraphrase and take notes during the research process. Students were then able to synthesize information and present their final products to classmates and educators.
