Paired Text Guide

In LIBS 644, Literature and Media for Young Adults, we had to create a Paired Text Guide for use in a collaborative English and Social Studies cross-curriculum unit. I prepared a guide for teaching 9th graders using the non-fiction book The Stonewall Riots: Coming out in the Streets by Gayle Pitman, and the historical fiction novel, Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. These books presented a great opportunity to study the struggle for LGBTQ rights in a historic context, through material relatable to cotemporary young people. I learned how to link the Virginia Standards of Learning to library resources at grade level.
