About Me

Hi! My name is Tennille and I am a heart mom, advocate for children, and candidate for the MLIS hoping to graduate in December, 2023. I am a member of the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters Patient Family Advisory Council and the education coordinator for Mended Little Hearts of Coastal Virginia. I use the information that I’ve learned in my journey as a heart mom to inform the community I serve and I am grateful for the research and information I’ve had access to as part of my job. I began my career in libraries in 1994 at Tulane University at the Nadine Vorhoff Center for Research on Women and moved into public libraries in 2008. I work in Children’s services primarily but love doing adult programming as well. I’m passionate about early literacy and making the library a welcoming, vibrant environment for everyone. As much as I like to see people in the library, I love to bring the library into the community. I’m pursuing this degree to advance in the public library system. I want to ensure that the library is a dynamic, vital part of the community and that it reflects and serves its population. I look forward to learning more about how to turn that philosophy into practice throughout this journey. I want everyone to have as much fun in the library as I do!
